WSO Partners with AWE to Bring Sights and Sounds to the Stage!

Windsor, ON – This weekend the Windsor Symphony Orchestra performs spellbinding musical and artistic masterpieces. The WSO has partnered with Art Windsor-Essex (AWE) – to bring the community an enchanting orchestral event where the harmonious notes of the symphony seamlessly blend with captivating visual art, creating a multisensory experience for the audience.

This community-generated project blends images of works in AWE’s collection with composer Robert Rival’s own photos to create a video accompaniment to the performance of his Symphony No. 2, “Water”,which captures both nature’s raw force and sense of serenity. Using both traditional methods like drawing, painting, and collage, along with AI driven digital tools, this unique collaboration is a first for AWE and WSO.

“Art Windsor-Essex is excited to partner with our friends at the Windsor Symphony Orchestra to combine the power of two art forms, visual art, and music, to create an innovative and immersive experience. Audiences will see visuals that blend images from AWE’s permanent collection with artworks created by the community. A true harmony of mediums happens in this performance, and we know it will be an incredible experience!”Jennifer Matotek, AWE Executive Director

Maestro Robert Franz agrees,Collaborating with AWE allows us to bring to life works from their collection inspired by the sea that speak to the musical soundscapes created in Robert Rival’s “Water” Symphony. The visual imagery will ignite the imaginations of all of those listening to Rival’s picturesque symphony.

The WSO also performs Vaughan William’s, The Lark Ascending, featuring WSO Principal Second Violinist Émilie Paré. Earthbeat, by Juno-nominated Canadian composer Vincent Ho, reflects Canada’s history and its Indigenous peoples in musical form. Over 25 young violinists from Sunnyside Strings perform with the WSO around the theatre creating a surround sound experience.
