Windsor, ON – This weekend a trio from the Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) perform the newly discovered Mozart piece Ganz Klein Nachtmusik before concert. This is believed to be the first youth trio in North America to perform this work in public.
The piece, comprised of seven short movements, was written for two violins and cello by Mozart when he was between 10 and 13 years old. It was tucked away, dormant in the archives at the Leipzig Municipal Library in Germany, unplayed and unknown until researchers archiving the library’s Mozart section discovered it this fall.
Prior to the WSO’s Beethoven 7 concert this weekend, the trio, comprised of Norah Bellmore, violin, Ruby Tullio, violin, and Caleb Liem, cello, will perform as patrons enter the theatre.
WSO Assistant Conductor and Youth Orchestra Music Director Geoffrey Larson says, “We’re excited that WSYO members will be among the first musicians in North America to perform Mozart’s newly discovered piece. This is just one of a wide range of unique musical opportunities offered to students in the WSO’s youth orchestras.”
