WSO Launches Dynamic 2024-2025 Season!

Windsor, ON – On Tuesday April 9, 2024, the WSO launched its 2024-2025 season of world-class music for Windsor and Essex County to enjoy.

SEASON HIGHTLIGHTS

  • World Premiere by Syrian composer Malek Jandali
  • Exciting concert collaboration with the Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF)
  • Performances by local artists – Erin Armstrong, Dane Fader, Sara Fontaine, and the St. Clair College Music Theatre students
  • Timeless classical programing like Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Bartok, Mozart and more
  • Special guest conductor – Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser
  • Performances featuring the Windsor Symphony Orchestra Chorus
  • Added concert dates for Onstage/Café concerts and Handel’s Messiah

BILL & ROCHELLE TEPPERMAN MASTERWORKS (5 concerts, 10 performances)
These masterpieces present a rich tapestry of classical music honoring the traditions of the past and embracing the creativity of the present.
The season opens with a concert featuring composer, Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, designed to showcase all the instruments of the orchestra. A recognizable piece from The King’s Speech, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. A steam-punk version of the timeless tale, the Legend of Orpheus. Featuring mezzo-soprano, Erin Armstrong, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and students from the St. Clair College Music Theatre program. The world premiere of composer Malek Jandali’s Symphony No. 5 in a Syrian World Premiere and all Tchaikovsky to wrap the Masterworks series.

TOLDO POPS SERIES (5 concerts, 10 performances)
Music that is popular today, iconic and includes many different styles.
The Toldo Pops series opens with a nod to the Golden Age of Film. The WSO and WIFF bring you a concert and movie experience, showcasing the first film shown at the Capitol Theatre in 1920, Buster Keaton’s film One Week. Guest conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser is back at the helm in Bhangra and Beyond, a musical journey that embraces rhythm and dance inspired by South Asia. The beloved Holiday Pops is a musical favourite featuring local singer Dane Fader, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Music Moves Kids. Sarah Slean performs The Music of Joni Mitchell 

ONSTAGE/CAFÉ CONCERT SERIES (5 concerts, 2 performances)
Sit where the musicians sit… onstage!
The popular and intimate Onstage and Café Concert Series have been so popular, we’ve added a 5th concert. Patrons share the stage with Maestro Franz and the orchestra for music, bevvies, & tasty bites, or music, coffee & pastries. Both series are popular with our new patrons and sold-out last season! This season hear Bach, Strauss, Coleridge-Taylor, Shubert, and Mozart.

MESSIAH & WSO ROCKS!
The inspiring holiday tradition Handel’s Messiah is on the program for 4 evenings, in Windsor, Tecumseh and Leamington. For all the rock and rollers, WSO Rocks! The Music of ABBA performed by Jeans ‘n Classics at the Chrysler Theatre will have you saying… Mamma Mia!
