WSO ushers in its Season of Becoming

WINDSOR – The upcoming season of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will capture a symphony in transition, evolving, and shaping what comes next.

“The coming season is not just a season of performance, it’s a season of discovery,” explained WSO board chairperson, Kyle Kootstra.

Kootstra and the WSO team unveiled plans for the 2026-2027 season on Wednesday at the Capitol Theatre. In addition to a program filled with spectacular music, guest artists and WSO traditions, the new season will also include programs conducted by finalists in the current Music Director search.

“We will be welcoming finalists to the Capitol Theatre stage to conduct a main stage concert,” Kootstra said. “Audiences will be able to see the finalists and offer feedback on their experience at the concert.

“This is an exciting time for the orchestra.”

The WSO is in a season of discovery as it searches for a new Music Director. Last September, beloved Music Director Robert Franz passed from cancer. Throughout the most recent season, the orchestra was led by guest conductors including Artistic Advisor, Jamie Sommerville, who has also coordinated the season program from an outline left by Franz.

The season kicks-off on September 26 with the Bill and Rochelle Tepperman Masterworks concert, Opening Weekend: From Paris and Madrid, featuring Copland’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, performed by WSO clarinetist Graham Lord. The series also includes Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Mozart’s comedic opera Cosi fan Tutte, a concert of eastern European flare with Hungarian Soul and concludes with Berlioz’s vivid Symphonie Fantastique.

The Toldo Pops series will start with a tribute to the sounds of country music when London, Ontario native Genevieve Fisher brings an unforgettable concert that blends orchestra with modern country soul in WSO goes Country with Genevieve Fisher on October 24/25. The Pops will continue with The Music of James Bond in November, the tradition of Holiday Pops in December, A Night in Vienna featuring St. Clair College Music Theatre students in February and closes with the wizardly sounds with the Music of Harry Potter in April.

Other highlights of the coming season include CBC’s Tom Allen: A Poe Cabaret to launch the 2026-2027 OnStage and Café concert series, the popular Handel’s Messiah at area churches and WSO Rocks! concert featuring the Music of the 80’s.

Subscription packages are now available for sale at the WSO Box Office or online at windsorsymphony.com. Subscription tickets offer the best seats and prices along with other perks such as priority access to special performances, free ticket exchanges and discounts on WSO merchandise. Single tickets for concerts will be on sale as of July 8.
