One story. Three faiths. Endless inspiration.

WINDSOR, ON – There will be many reasons to celebrate with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO) next week.

The WSO’s Tepperman Masterworks series will feature a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah, one of the most celebrated oratorios in the orchestral repertoire. The concerts will be conducted by WSO Conductor Laureate and former Music Director, John Morris Russell.

Elijah will be semi-staged to enhance this overtly dramatic work, utilizing the entire stage at the Capitol Theatre. Windsor favourite, Reggie Smith Jr. sings the title role, along with the WSO ChorusWindsor Classic Choral and the University of Windsor Singers

“I am looking forward to working with friends and colleagues old and new—this work means so very much all of us. In a world embroiled in economic and political upheaval and civic unrest, the themes of steadfast faith, personal sacrifice and fidelity in this work are as relevant today as they were when the biblical texts were penned nearly 2,500 ago. From furious mob scenes and pagan revelry to choruses of angels and soul-stirring anthems, ‘Elijah’ is a rich and vibrant musical portrait of the human condition kissed by the genius of Mendelssohn. It will be as much of a deeply emotional experience for all of us on stage as it will be for our audiences,” said John Morris Russell, WSO Conductor Laureate.
