
Peter Wiebe was named Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) Conductor and Assistant Conductor in-Residence in January 2005. The WSYO now boasts over 60 talented musicians, and will perform two full concerts this season. Mr. Wiebe has played cello in the Windsor Symphony Orchestra’s core since 1987. He has also served the WSO at different times as principal and assistant principal cellist, education co-ordinator, concert host, operations manager, arranger and composer.
Mr. Wiebe is active as a cello teacher, and conducts the strings class at Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts, and he has also been an instructor and conductor at Concertare Musicale and Huckleberry Music Camps. Peter Wiebe earned a Bachelor's degree in music performance from Brandon University and a Master's from the University of Western Ontario, studying cello with Malcolm Tait and Alex Adaman. His arrangements and compositions have been played by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, South Dakota Symphony, Okanagan Symphony, Minnesota All-State Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. His conducting instructors have included Earl Davey, George Wiebe, John Morris Russell and Dan Warren. Mr. Wiebe resides in Windsor with his wife, Ruth, and six children.
