The Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO) has a mission! Formed in 2004, it exists to help young people develop their talent and realize their full potential through the experience of making music at a high level of excellence. However, participating in the Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra is not just about the music. It also involves learning about striving for excellence, cooperating with others and working together in a professional environment. What better lesson for life?

“I have a passion to teach and inspire young musicians, knowing that experiencing music of the masters with their friends and peers can be a formative experience for them. My goal is to foster an environment in which excellence is expected and achieved, but always with a sense of play. After more than 30 years of music making, I still have fun making music, and I can’t think of a better new avenue in which to continue doing that!” said WSYO conductor, Peter Wiebe.

The WSYO is an Exciting Opportunity for Aspiring Musicians ages 12-20 from across Essex and Kent counties.
As part of the WSYO:

• You will have the opportunity to make music with people your own age who enjoy playing orchestral music
• You will develop and realize your full potential as musicians, performers and teammates
• You will make music at an advanced level
• You will gain orchestral and performance experience
• You will learn practical musical skills, teamwork, self-discipline and dedication to excellence

 It is estimated that almost 90 % of all professional orchestra musicians in Canada are graduates of Youth Orchestra programs. WSYO performances will be of a high standard, and will also be full of three “E’s” – Energy, Emotion & Excellence…and we could throw in an “F”as well – FUN!
