
WINDSOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
APPOINTS NEW PRINCIPAL VIOLIST
(Windsor, Ontario – October 29, 2007) After a national search and auditions, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra appointed Joshua Greenlaw as its new principal viola player.
For the last three years Mr. Greenlaw has served as assistant principal viola with the Canadian Opera Company of Toronto, including its acclaimed first seasons at the new Four Seasons Centre. He has also served in the orchestra of the prestigious Santa Fe Opera Company and in the Vancouver Symphony. During this time he was featured on CBC radio, both as a soloist on the Debut series and as a chamber musician.
Joshua began his post-secondary education at the Eastman School of Music. There he studied violin with Camilla Wicks, continuing on viola with David Stewart at the University of Manitoba, and ending at the University of British Columbia with Gerald Stanick. Josh has been the recipient of several provincial and national grants, including a Canada Council residency at the Banff Centre.
Mr. Greenlaw’s first performances with the WSO will be on Friday, November 9th on the Mozart & More Series. Performances are at 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Assumption University Chapel in Windsor. The Series features a season of serenades, with Dvorák’s masterpiece sharing this program with music of Grieg and Mendelssohn, conducted by music director John Morris Russell.
